ONC leader lays out agenda for national health information technology

In this video from the national health information technology conference in Boston on April 29, Dr. David Blumenthal, national coordinator for health IT, lays out his office's task list for the next few years.

Blumenthal talks about such national health information technology initiatives as Beacon communities and regional extension centers -- things with which many SearchHealthIT.com readers are familiar. But on top of that, he delves into some less-heralded efforts that hospital CIOs need to watch -- including updating the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (known by its more familiar abbreviation, CLIA, and affecting more than 200,000 U.S. labs) for the electronic age; the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) and NHIN Direct; and improving the usability of health IT.
