Key HIMSS 2011 trends to track: HIE, ACO and ICD-10

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2011 conference, which convenes in Orlando beginning on Feb. 20, comes at an important time for health care IT professionals.

Federal mandates to implement electronic health record (EHR) technology by 2014, combined with an Oct. 1, 2013, deadline to use International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th Edition (ICD-10) codes, have forced providers, payers, clearinghouses and government agencies to plan, to prioritize and when possible, to innovate.

In this video, SearchHealthIT.com editor Brian Eastwood discusses what he expects to hear about ICD-10 at HIMSS 2011. In addition, he talks about health information exchange and accountable care organizations -- innovations at the top of the HIMSS 2011 agenda that have the potential to bring interoperable EHR technology to providers of all sizes.
