How HL7 standards affect meaningful use

Health Level Seven International (HL7), an organization responsible for setting health care information interoperability standards, played a big role in shaping the final meaningful use rule. The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology made several changes to the rule based on feedback submitted by HL7 during the comment period. In addition, five of the HL7 standards and guides will be used in the final rule.

SearchHealthIT.com features writer Don Fluckinger sat down with John Quinn, chief technology officer of HL7, at the recent SOA in Healthcare Conference in Washington, D.C. In this video interview, Quinn discusses what physicians and health care CIOs need to know about HL7 standards as they relate to meaningful use.
