Meaningful use compliance in 2012: More analytics

In this podcast, IDC Health Data Insights' Judy Hanover breaks down the coming year in meaningful use compliance for the health care sector.

CMS will likely delay meaningful use compliance deadlines for stage 2. The agency also projected a February release of proposed stage 2 criteria. Will they be out in time for the HIMSS 2012 conference, where of course CMS will deploy an army of IT folks to evangelize to health care CIOs on their priorities?

We sat down with IDC Health Data Insights' research director Judy Hanover, co-author of the recent Predictions report that delves into health IT trends for the coming year, to discuss the impact of meaningful use on health care IT for the near term.

While IDC predicts most providers will ride the EHR adoption trend – and half will have their systems up and running by the end of the year  -- a few won't. Those, Hanover said, are physicians either close to retirement or planning to join larger networks in order to turn over the nuts and bolts of EHR adoption to their new owners. She breaks down the results of her recent research, and puts it into context for CIOs looking to plan their IT budgets and implementation schedules.
