At ATA 2013, telemedicine reimbursement is the name of the game

ATA 2013 roundup: coal miners gamify heart health; a telemedicine reimbursement progress report; and another instance of where the fax is still king.

Telemedicine is growing, judging from the record-breaking number of nearly 6,000 attendees at the American Telemedicine Association's (ATA) 2013 Annual Meeting and Trade Show, held May 5-7 in Austin, Texas. While the growth is measureable considering more states are hardwiring telemedicine services into Medicaid reimbursement, attendees looked to ATA leadership to help improve their reimbursement strategies as well as discover the latest novel applications of the technology for administering care at their facilities.

In this podcast, SearchHealthIT reporters Ed Burns and Don Fluckinger highlight some of the trends and hot discussion topics from this year's meeting, including how one coal-mining employer used gamification techniques to improve the heart health of miners in rural Appalachia.
