 Integrated vs. modular EHR selection
ehr, EMR
Currently considering an integrated vs. modular approach for EHR integration for a small community hospital. Any luck with vendors from either camp? Recommendations? Advice?

I recommend a fully integrated EHR than a piece meal. Modular aproach may be less upfront costs but more maintenance and integration costs in future. Good luck with your selction. Please do spend some quality time before you make your final decisions on a vendor and do not feel shy to seek an experts advise

My personal opinion is a practice should choose the best products to meet their needs as long as a quaility integration has been completed and the necessary data elements flow without hampering the usage of either product. I have seen this done and since the billing staff rarely accesses the medical records it is important the doctors are comfortable with the EMR and the billing staff with the PM module. As I said, a quality integration is the key and when you have a vendor specializing on a quality PM and another on a quality EMR you get the best in both areas.
