In the recent report that Surescripts released they did mention that they are planning on providing some more functionality as part of their product such as:
Drive utilization: Continue to develop programs that focus on driving the utilization of e-prescribing and interoperable health technologies.
Bridge adoption gaps: Support gaps in adoption by smaller practices, by independently owned pharmacies and by state Medicaid programs.
Promote clinical collaboration: Support emerging collaborative models of care.

And currently whenever any certified electronic prescribing software uses web services to submit prescriptions as well as medication requests and then can also process the returned messages (which are SOAP message with the payload) that contain the response.
I would assume that they will build on the same platform and support CCD/CCR along with the latest HL7 message.
