A message from Craig D. Schneider, Ph.D, Director of Healthcare Policy, Massachusetts Health Data Consortium (MHDC)
As a result of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the U.S. government has already begun distributing millions of dollars to hospitals and physicians around the country who have achieved meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs). There are millions of dollars more in incentive checks to be handed out and, hospitals and physician practices — large and small — are gearing up to meet the challenge of EHR implementation.
The transformation to technological data systems in our hospitals and health plans is fundamental to increased quality, communication, access and patient-centered care. Its inception will lower health care costs and remove waste and duplication. However, this revolution has not been an easy one, as the obstacles to meaningful use attestation are many. Hospitals and physicians need to make the transition from paper records to electronic systems and re-engineer their workflows to maximize the benefit of EHRs.
This kind of monumental renovation can only be achieved with the help and support of the entire health care community. The “HealthMart’11: How to Receive Your Meaningful Use Payments” conference and trade show is the perfect place to begin the journey. Hosted by the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium, this conference is being held on October 5th from 8 am-4 pm at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester, MA.
The HealthMart’11 Conference and trade show is free to members of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Medical Group Management Association of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the Massachusetts Hospital Association, the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers and enrollees in the Regional Extension Center. HealthMart’11 offers 20 presentations in five different breakout sessions on topics that will guide the prospective meaningful use user on how to achieve a smooth adoption. Presentations will be given by experts in the field who have already been through the process, as well as vendors that are offering the appropriate technology for implementation. An exhibit hall will be open with about 25-30 vendors, all in the Health IT industry. Attendees will get a chance to meet with vendors, share best practices and learn about the different technologies available for their systems. Don’t miss out on this critical opportunity to educate yourself and your organization on how to receive meaningful use payments as soon as possible!
