Two more Beacon Community grants up for grabs

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced last week that it is accepting applications for the second round of Beacon Community grants. In this cycle, $30.3 million will be given to two institutions.

Through the Beacon Community program, health care organizations receive funding to build health IT infrastructure and health information exchange (HIE). In doing so, they will serve as a “beacon” to the rest of the nation on how to improve care delivery and clinical efficiency.

Organizations who wish to apply for a grant must file a letter of intent by June 9, and submit an application by June 28. The ONC is holding a technical assistance call for interested applicants today from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EDT.

Fifteen Beacon Community grants, totaling $220 million, were awarded in May. These cover initiatives that range from improving care coordination for patients with diabetes, hypertension and childhood asthma, to expanding HIEs to reducing racial disparities in care.
