The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has updated its list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs.
The latest additions to the CMS FAQ page provide information about the registration process for the EHR Incentive Programs: namely, what hospitals should do if they qualify for both the Medicare and Medicaid programs, what the threshold is for a physician to become a hospital-based eligible professional, and whether EPs are allowed to have someone else register for them.
Even if you know the answers to those questions (in order: let CMS know you are registering for both programs; perform 90% of your services in an inpatient or emergency room setting; no), the CMS FAQ page is worth a look. It contains quite a bit of information about the steps required to get money from the EHR Incentive Programs, including eligibility, registration, the meaningful use criteria and the state Medicaid incentive programs. Some general questions about the meaningful use final rule are included for those who would rather not comb through the document.
