Four states receive matching funds to implement EHR incentives

Earlier this week the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that four states will receive federal matching funds to assist with planning activities related to implementing electronic health record (EHR) incentive programs. The states of New Jersey, Louisiana, Minnesota and Maryland were awarded funds totaling $9.19 million.

According to Section 4201 of the HITECH Act, states may apply for a federal financial participation, or FFP, match that will reimburse them for 90% of the planning and implementation expenses incurred to administer EHR incentive payments. EHR planning activities include analysis of current state health IT initiatives, development of health IT deliverables, outreach and education, and training and other administrative functions.
