Date: May 05, 2010

U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) says he is a big fan of health care IT. In this video, he addresses the 5th Annual Public Policy Forum of the New England Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) about why he supports such health care IT initiatives as the Beacon Community program.

Sen. Whitehouse also describes his proposal to create a new class of meaningful use qualification, allowing meaningful use to be evaluated at the community level. "You [wouldn't] have to show, doctor by doctor, provider by provider, that you are participating and have met all the different standards," Whitehouse says.

Watch this video to hear more highlights from Sen. Whitehouse's keynote speech and learn why he thinks health care IT initiatives are a critical part of health care reform.
