Self-testing is one way to prepare for HIE certification

This webcast features Dennis Wilson, director of technology and testing for the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT). Here he explains how CCHIT, an ONC-authorized testing and certification body that certifies EHR technology for the HITECH Act, has developed HIE certification testing for three different environments. Wilson covers the main differences between an HIE-certified community, HIE-certified direct and an HIE-certified network.

CCHIT tests vendor products and facilities' HIE installations. In both cases, the testing body runs a test in their automated environment and compares it to the vendor's or facility's previously performed self-test. CCHIT has an HIE Everywhere portal that provides information to potential applicants that are preparing for the HIE certification.
