Are the HITECH Act's meaningful use deadlines realistic?

Given the size and complexity of the current health care system, are meaningful use deadlines truly realistic? Ray Campbell, CEO and executive director of the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium, addressed this question at his organization's annual meeting, held June 4 in Boston. He noted that the HITECH Act's implementation has produced a number of unintended consequences, with serious implications for the ability to meet its meaningful use deadlines.
