Largely owned by a physician group, Sandlot Solutions is a health information exchange and clinical analytics software vendor that demonstrates its applications in a working Texas accountable care organization called Plus. The vendor hopes other accountable care organizations will be able to apply them to their workflows.
As such, it's the opposite of many software companies: The beta testers are the owners, making Sandlot's research and development more real world-based, rather than features invented in software labs with theoretically useful applications.
We sat down with Sandlot CEO Joe Casper to pick his brain about what innovations and trends he'll be watching at the upcoming Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2013 convention in New Orleans. We also discussed what, in theory, a Cerner-McKesson interoperability agreement might mean for the health information exchange (HIE) space, if the two health IT titans ink such a deal.
