Podcast: What you missed at HIMSS 2013

SearchHealthIT reporters Ed Burns and Don Fluckinger break down the big stories and hot health IT themes emerging from HIMSS 2013 in New Orleans.

HIMSS 2013 rocked New Orleans in more ways than just depositing tens of thousands of people in the Central Business District and on Bourbon Street. First off, five EHR vendors banded together and announced the CommonWell Health Alliance interoperability initiative.

Then, CMS Acting Administrator Marilyn Tavenner made an appearance -- as a late addition to the agenda -- to deliver a keynote supporting the agency's health IT initiatives headed up by National Coordinator for Health IT Farzad Mostashari, M.D., who also made himself available to discuss trending topics, future initiatives and the effects of the federal budget sequester.

In this podcast, reporters Ed Burns and Don Fluckinger discuss what they saw as the most significant themes to emerge from the show -- and to discuss their thoughts on who is behind the Farzad's Bowtie fake Twitter account.
