If professional training is any indicator of which way the health care winds are blowing, a new board certification program for physicians demonstrates how the field is becoming more interested in information technology.

The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) is creating tools that build meaningful use and health IT into its Maintenance of Certification program. Physicians undergo the voluntary evaluation to continue their education.

In this podcast, listen to Dr. Shelly Horowitz, special adviser to the president of the ABMS, as he describes how doctors can use the new tools in their evaluation, and discusses the changing landscape physicians face in adopting health IT and learning to become meaningful users of electronic health records. "We would like to do our part in promoting" care improvement, he said.
