IT has always been associated with reacting to technology issues, and tends to be perceived as the service staff. But for many who have successfully engaged in being more than just that were the IT departments that proved their value through showing tangible results and fixes to the business challenges. Value can be in educating the users on how to maximize the use of equipment, or simply ensuring that the systems don't go down that often. Also, IT must be involved in the day to day business and understand what the users use the system for and speak the language of the organization and feel and act that they do in fact affect the button lines.
