Answer Wiki:
General understanding of healthcare clinical workflow General understanding of billing workflow Understanding of the different datasets (claim data, demographics, clinical, soap notes..) Some high level understanding of HIT systems (EHR, PMS, calling system, interfacing engines, HIE..) Some experience with some of the PMS/EHR systems out there (if you can get an non paying internship at a medical facility and learn as much as you can about how they are using the system and their processes, this would a significant plus. I have reviewed some of the available accelerated courses at some of the local colleges for HIT programs and they have a lot of great courses that can help you get a head start.
