Answer Wiki:
I admit that I was quite surprised to see this from Google. Unfortunately, it appears to me that Google did not have the opportunity to develop a robust strategy around Google Health. At the end of the day, payors (health insurance plans) really want to see how PHRs will improve patient care. They want to see data and changes in patient metrics. If Google had developed a robust strategy that would accomplish this, they would not be shutting down Google Health. Let's see what Microsoft will do with Health Vault.

Our coverage of the Google Health’s demise — available here and here, which draws on commentary from a number of health information technology experts, basically suggests the same thing — that Google hadn’t been able to develop a real strategy and didn’t seem to want to. It reminds me of the elite marathoner who feels a tweak in his hamstring at mile 3 and, even though he’s in the lead pack, decides to leave the race.
