 Free mobile apps
Someone asked me this the other day: Who supports the development of free mobile apps? If you look on the iTunes App Store, you'll see a variety of free apps. Do companies make money by releasing free apps?

Answer Wiki:
Many of the free apps are offered as a way to get more users to install adn download them. Once you get enough users with the app you can expose them to Ads (which are the ones that usually pay the developer for fees). Keep in mind that if you have a free healthcare App, then your sponsors maybe EHR vendors or other healthcare related vendors. Not however that Apple has different rules when it comes to Ads and user related data (user details and such), Android is more relaxed which can be also a privacy concern since phone numbers, device details maybe shared with Advertisers.
