Health IT, HIPAA & Security Survey: April 2011
The changing compliance landscape brings a slew of new HIPAA mandates, data privacy enforcement policies and security upgrades. We asked you to tell us how you're managing your operations. Here is how you responded:
- 63% will not need to update their business associate and third-party vendor contracts because they're already aligned with HIPAA rules
- 49.8% identify "staff who leave laptops/records in open areas" as their organization's weakest security link, while 22% say it's "unencrypted data flowing through the network"
- 55% are already using encryption software to protect patient data and 45% predict that spending on encryption technology will remain the same
- 54.5% responded that single sign-on applications play a significant role in their user authentication practices
